The short answer

Amazon seller registration in India starts at Seller Central’s onboarding page (sellercentral.amazon.in). Amazon’s guide says you need a GSTIN, an active bank account, a store name and a pickup address in the same state as your GST registration. Without GST, you can only sell GST-exempt products, using your PAN. On fees, Amazon.in says its referral fee starts at 0% and varies by category, the closing fee starts at ₹2 (with an increase from 7 September 2026), and the weight handling (shipping) fee starts at ₹37 per item. Amazon deposits payments every 7 days. From March 2026, Amazon expanded zero referral fees to items under ₹1,000 across 1,800+ categories.

Documents you need

From Amazon’s seller registration guide:

Checklist: GSTIN, PAN, bank account, store name, pickup address in the same state as GST registration
  • GSTIN (or PAN, if you’ll sell only GST-exempt products)
  • Active bank account
  • Store name
  • Pickup address in the same state as your GST registration

Keep your PAN, email and mobile number ready too. Brand-gated categories may need extra approval.

Your first weeks on Amazon

  • Listing quality: titles, bullet points, images and keywords; see Amazon SEO
  • Price on full cost: referral, closing, shipping and returns
  • Early reviews: fast dispatch and good packaging
  • Ads: start small with Amazon PPC and track ACoS

Mistakes to avoid

Pickup address in a different state from your GST. Amazon asks for the same state.

Pricing with old fee numbers. Fees changed in 2026.

Listing without keywords. Amazon search depends on it.

Running ads before listings are ready. Paid clicks on a weak page waste money.

Checklist

  • Bank account, store name and pickup address in the GST state
  • Category fees checked on Amazon’s fee page
  • Listings with keyword-rich titles and good images
  • Fulfilment option chosen
  • Starting ad budget and ACoS target
